Description

Drag Queen Brunch features gorgeous photography of the dishes (both the ladies and the recipes) in some of New Orleans most beautiful and iconic restaurants and courtyards. The book includes a foreword from a prominent voice in the national LGBTQ community, detailing the history of drag and this very special community in New Orleans. Also, an epilogue, explaining Tookers role in the Drag Queen world and the charitable tie in with Crescent Care and Lazarus House. Due in part to the broad popularity of Ru Paul, Americas drag queen culture has crossed into mainstream, straight pop culture. The Emmy winning Ru Paul s Drag Race, which airs on VH1 attracted over one million viewers for the tenth season debut in 2018. The genre is now so pervasive that when RuPaul produced DragCon in Los Angeles a two-day convention dedicated to drag, in 2018, over 40,000 people paid $40 per head to attend. Sixty percent of the attendees were women, half of the total attendees identified as straight. Weekly drag brunches are now held across the United States in both large and small metropolitan areas. A recent internet search brought up results in Mobile, New York City, Miami, Las Vegas, Cincinnati, D.C., Portland, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Greensboro, Louisville, Providence and Houston. Large parties of woman attend the brunches, often celebrating birthdays and bridal showers. Because the book has a very broad New Orleans theme, it is of interest to all who love the Crescent City and its food. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of The Drag Queen Brunch Book will be dedicated to Crescent Care (NO Aids Task Force). This organization has been active in New Orleans and the surrounding area for over 30 years.
