Crockpot Gyros

Recipe type: Yield: 4 Prep time: Cook time: Total time:

An authentic gyro is roasted in a vertical spit, but this crockpot version is a great homemade alternative to the real thing.

1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground turkey
2 teaspoons herbs (Za’atar, blend)
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 onions (small, chopped)
2 cloves garlic (crushed)
1 lemon

  1. 1. Place ground beef and turkey (or traditional lamb), spices and salt in a food processor and blend well.
  2. 2. Form it into a loaf with your hands.
  3. 3. Place onion and garlic into the bottom of your crockpot. Lay the meat loaf on top. Squeeze lemon juice over top. Cover and cook for 4 hours on low (or 2 hours on high).
  4. 4. Slice the meat and serve in warmed pita with Greek salad and tzatziki sauce. Wrap them in foil to hold them together.
