Tyson Cuts Antibiotics from Chicken Production


As you may have heard, Tysons Food just announced it will eliminate antibiotics in its US poultry production by September 2017. This announcement may well be a tipping point – it means one-third of the entire US poultry industry has now eliminated or pledged to eliminate antibiotics use. That’s huge.

The one caveat, of course, is what they mean when they say they’re removing the use of “human” antibiotics. We hope that will include all classes of medically-important antibiotics for people (as opposed to a subset of those, which are used on humans). We’ll continue to pursue those details.
