Haven Gastropub in Old Towne Orange has introduced the Haven Breakfast Burger in conjunction with The James Beard Foundation’s (JBF) Blended Burger Project™, a nationwide contest and challenge to make a “blended burger” that combines ground meat with finely chopped mushrooms to create a delicious, healthier, and more sustainable burger. Executive Chef & Partner Greg Daniels is offering this new burger during weekday Lunch and weekend Brunch service now through July 31, 2017, during which time guests can vote for the Haven Breakfast Burger online at http://bit.ly/2sahJIs. At the conclusion of the promotion, the five chefs with the most online votes for their burgers will be asked to present their blended burgers at the historic James Beard House in New York City during an exclusive event in 2018.
The Haven Breakfast Burger contains more than 25% mushroom chorizo, combined with Haven’s custom grind, Tillamook sharp cheddar, maple coffee braised bacon, fried egg, arugula, and Haven ketchup, on an OC Baking Company double egg-washed brioche bun.
“My culinary team and I had a lot of fun creating a blended burger for the James Beard Foundation. Blending meat with mushrooms reduces calories, fat, and sodium while adding important nutrients like vitamin D, potassium, and B vitamins,” explained Chef Daniels, whose original Haven Burger has received national acclaim. “A blended burger also brings more sustainable, plant-based items to menus allowing Americans to enjoy the taste and flavor of the burgers they love, knowing it’s a healthier and more sustainable preparation.”
Haven Gastropub opened in September of 2009 to a record crowd of 500,000+ attending the annual Orange International Street Fair. Since then, Haven Gastropub has already been recognized by both the Orange County Register and the readers of OC Weekly as the Best New Restaurant of 2009.
The gastropub movement started in the early 90’s in London, England. The idea of taking an existing pub, injecting a gourmet chef, and elevating the experience for its patrons crossed the pond and has been permeating this country for a few years now. Only recently has Orange County become a destination for such fare.
