Los Angeles-Careers through Culinary Arts Program reports that, with the combined efforts of its Advisory Board, led by C-CAP LA Program Director Mitzie Cutler, it raised $20,000 at its first Getting Our Just Desserts A Sweet Extravaganza event on November 17th, at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California-Los Angeles, in Santa Monica.
Food industry celebrities and dessert mavens served up a seemingly endless array of sweets for the walk-around tasting.
The icing on the cake was the “JUST DESSERTS CHALLENGE,” which showcased the skill, ingenuity, and speed of C-CAP graduate chefs who competed for prizes using a mystery basket of mandatory ingredients. Anthony Greco, graduate of Franklin High School and currently working at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills Hotel, garnered first place in this challenging competition. Those who attended had the opportunity to take home 39 fabulous auction items, including a catered cocktail party for 25 in the recipient’s home courtesy of Wolfgang Puck Catering, an eight-course tasting menu prepared by Chef John Sedlar at his revered Rivera and a five-course tasting dinner paired with wines at Charlie Palmer’s South Coast Plaza Restaurant in Costa Mesa.
