Four top Long Beach chefs will treat over 130 homeless, food insecure and low income men and women senior citizens to a multi-course gourmet lunch on October 25th, announced Chefs Serving Shelters organizer and Dine LBC founder Terri Henry.  The lunch will display the culinary talents of some of the city’s leading chefs and will treat the seniors to a true restaurant experience. Following lunch, the seniors will enjoy an afternoon of Bingo and will be offered a bag of groceries to take with them at the end of the afternoon.

The October 25th lunch will be held at:

  • Little Brown Mission (600 E. 5th Street, Long Beach, CA 90802 – cross street Atlantic)
  • 11:30am – 1pm, followed by Bingo and groceries distribution
  • Four courses prepared and served by representatives of The Federal Bar, The Attic on Broadway, Hof’s Hut and Dine LBC
  • Salad course produce donated by Dine LBC sponsor Fresh Point Produce

“Dine LBC has been organizing Chefs Serving Shelters events at least quarterly for a couple of years now,” said Henry, who also organizes Long Beach’s annual summer restaurant week.  “Serving a gourmet restaurant style meal to our senior neighbors struggling with food insecurity is our way of giving all of our neighbors a Long Beach restaurant experience they may not get to enjoy otherwise.”

“Despite its size, Long Beach is a tightly knit community where diversity, civic pride and caring for our neighbors are our strengths,” said Steve Massis, proprietor of The Attic on Broadway.  “The chefs and I are delighted for the opportunity to treat those most vulnerable in our community to an unforgettable meal every couple of months courtesy of ‘Chefs Serving Shelters’.”

“The participating chefs always feel this is a great way to give back to the community doing what we do best,” added Chef “T” Ouk, executive chef at The Federal Bar. “I’ve had the opportunity to participate in several of these ‘Chefs Serving Shelters’ events every few months, and I look forward to participating in many more in the future.”
