In celebration of Oktoberfest, the world’s largest cultural celebration held annually in Germany, Bayside in Newport Beach will be offering a special menu available Sept 19 – Oct 23. Crafted by Executive Chef Paul Gstrein, a native of neighboring Austria, the specials celebrate classic Bavarian cuisine and traditional ingredients of the region. In addition, an Oktoberfest beer will be available on draft during this time.
Among the menu’s highlights: ($15) – Compressed Smoked Steelhead Trought Salad with sour cream, horseradish, celery, granny smith apples & petit greens.
($29) – Boneless Pork Chop with forest mushroom sauce, Spaetzle dumplings & wilted spinach.
Wiener Saftgulasch ($35) – Vienna-style braised beef short-ribs with potato puree, charred mini peppers & Brussel sprou krainer Bratwurst ($26) – Emmenthal cheese-infused smoked pork sausage with sauerkraut, roasted potatoes and sweet & spicy mustard.
Menu items are subject to change. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (949) 721-1222.
The original Oktoberfest in Munich has been an important part of Bavarian culture since 1810. The 16-day festival, which attracts 6 million visitors each year, is known as “die Wiesn” to locals.
Since opening its doors, Bayside has consistently earned high marks in the Zagat Guide and glowing reviews in major newspapers and magazines as well as several television programs. Gstrein’s honors include Chef of the Year by the Orange County Business Journal as well as €œtop chef€ nods by the Los Angeles Times, OC Register, Orange Coast Mag, Coast, Riviera, OC Weekly, Where, OC Metro and others.
Bayside is a contemporary dining establishment with an extensive menu emphasizing fresh seafood. The 246-seat restaurant, that overlooks the tranquil waters of Newport Harbor, recently completed a massive interior renovation that includes new color scheme, seating and fabric upholstery, modern lighting, acoustical improvements and a generous use of Macassar ebony, a rare wood from Indonesia. The remodeled interior lends the ideal backdrop to Bayside’s ever-evolving fine art exhibition. The wrap-around patio comes with built-in heaters and sun drapes and its large windows offer breathtaking views of the harbor. Live entertainment is offered nightly in the bar and lounge and during Champagne Sunday brunch. For more information visit baysiderestaurant.com
