Wienerschnitzel, home of America’s favorite chili dog, is celebrating its namesake holiday, National Wienerschnitzel Day, by offering guests a free Chili Dog with purchase on Monday, September 9. Hot dog fans are encouraged to stop by their local Wienerschnitzel and show this coupon (printed or on a mobile device) to chow down on a free Original Chili Dog with any purchase.
Smothered in the brand’s world-famous chili, a secret recipe that’s kept under lock and key, Wienerschnitzel’s original chili dog has been a staple on the menu since 1961. Company founder, John Galardi wanted the name of his new hot dog concept to be memorable instead of something like, “John’s Hot Dogs.” Ironically enough, it was the wife of Glenn Bell (founder of Taco Bell) that suggested “Wienerschnitzel” while she was flipping through a cookbook; and John thought it was just crazy enough to work! Today, Wienerschnitzel has grown to be the world’s largest hot dog chain with more than 340 locations throughout the U.S.!
“We’re well aware that this national food holiday isn’t necessarily referring to our legendary chili dogs, but we couldn’t miss an opportunity to have some fun with our fans on National Wienerschnitzel Day!” said Doug Koegeboehn, Chief Marketing Officer for Wienerschnitzel. “Nearly 60 years ago, people were surprised John Galardi named his hot dog restaurant ‘Wienerschnitzel,’ but I think it’s safe to say that he proved them all wrong because today, everyone knows that Wienerschnitzel is the place to go for the best chili dog in town!”
Free Original Chili Dog with purchase is valid only on Monday, September 9, at participating Wienerschnitzel locations. Online coupon must be presented at register; both printed and digital coupons will be accepted. Each coupon is good for one free Original Chili Dog with purchase. Cheese and tax are extra.
