Chad Urata was born and raised in San Diego, California. After initially studying mechanical engineering, he quickly discovered his true passion and set his sights on a profession in cooking. Chad enrolled in Orange Coast College’s renowned culinary program, where he and Brent met, and later competed together in a series of American Culinary Federations student culinary competitions.
Chad started his career in the kitchen of veteran chef Alan Greely of the Golden Truffle. That experience was followed by cooking positions held at the iconic Peninsula Hotel and Surf & Sand Resort. Later, Chad was named Sous Chef at the prestigious Pacific Club in Newport Beach, and Executive Sous Chef at Cucina Alessa in Newport Beach.
After a stint with SLS Hotel’s Tres Restaurat in Beverly Hills, under James Beard award-winning Chef, Jose Andres, Chad returned to Orange County and took on the position of Sous Chef at Urban Kitchen Group’s Cucina Enoteca in Irvine where, after a short period of time, he became Chef De Cuisine. In this role, Chad took special pride in his ability to refine technique, master the balance of flavors, and mentor the next generation of chefs.
Upon his departure from Cucina Enoteca, Chad worked as a consultant for both Model Meals in 4th Street Market and Zov’s Bistro, who received the award of Golden Foodie “Chef of the Year”. When Chad isn’t cooking delicious pizzas at CENTRO, you’ll find him cruising on his motorcycle or enjoying time with his growing family.
