The upscale SBE Entertainment Group Japanese restaurant, Katsuya, closed its doors Monday night shuttering less than two years after the sushi restaurant’s June 2011 opening in the former home of Hush. Whether this signals a slight ripple in the aggressive expansion of SBE’s chef-branded restaurant business or signs of a downturn in Laguna Beach’s fortunes is currently anyone’s guess, as SBE plans to focus its energies on a local location of Umami Burger. Katsuya had a fire-sale of sorts Monday night, with locals receiving 50% off all menu items.

Katsuya, was known for its crispy rice with spicy tuna and black cod marinated in jalapeno and miso. The restaurant is named for head chef Katsuya Uechi, and has seven other locations, including spots in Glendale, Hollywood and Brentwood.

No official announcement was given to the press on Monday.
