BBQ Baked Beans
Flavorful baked beans made with care from sratch
¼ pound bacon, diced1 medium onion, diced4 medium garlic cloves, minced1 lb. dried cannellini beans, washed & picked over to remove debris or dark-colored beans1 cup strong black coffee¼ cup dark brown sugar1 tablespoon molasses1 ½ tablespoons prepared brown mustard½ cup plus 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce½ tsp. hot pepper sauce, such as Tabasco8 cups of waterSaltGround black pepper
- In a large Dutch oven, sauté bacon until fat is rendered out, add onions and garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add the rest of the ingredients – except for one tablespoon of BBQ sauce.
- Bake for 4 hours at 300 degrees with the lid on. Remove the lid and bake for another 1 – 1.5 hours. Add the 1 tbs. of BBQ sauce and salt and pepper at the end of the cooking process to your desired taste.
