Bluegold – Huntington Beach
0.00

Bluegold celebrates Southern California’s land, from citrus groves to the rocky coast, with a renewal of the coastal California eatery (Bluegold’s name was inspired by the point where the sunset hits the ocean on the horizon). With Bluegold, the Blackhouse team seeks to take farm-to-table back to its roots; to a time where leisure met cuisine and culture was drawn from the earth and sea. From fresh oysters in the steam kettle to a savory steak grilled over charcoal, Bluegold reimagines the seaside dining experience.

SUN 11 AM - 4 PM

Habana’s brunch menu is available at their Costa Mesa location and is offered from 11AM - 4PM on Sundays, weekly. Chef Alex Moreno will be the mastermind behind the early weekend menu at Costa Mesa until the awaited secondary location at the Irvine Spectrum opens. Before we know it, Moreno will be at the helm of the kitchen in Irvine preparing far more than brunch for us to enjoy. If you’re unfamiliar with Habana’s Cuban brunch fare, we’ll put it simply -- flavor explosion. Unique spices and sauces grace every plate and complement traditional Cuban proteins such as roasted pork and more. To put it briefly, this is a brunch for the books and one you won’t want to miss.

Recess Room (The) – Fountain Valley
0.00

The Recess Room is giving Fountain Valley something it has desperately needed, a brunch worth bragging about. Officially available to the public starting Sunday, August 6th, Chef Sam Green will be serving up classic brunch favorites with an Asian twist. For those who are not yet aware of the new OC spot, The Recess Room plates up their unique take on New American bites, like Blue Crab Beignets made with mascarpone, Pork Belly Sliders made with pickled red onion and creamy tiger sauce, and Bone Marrow Mac & Cheese made with oxtail marmalade, fontina, mozzarella, bechamel, candied jalapenos, and trottole. They also offer guests a number of craft libations, such as a bourbon, honey, and lemon drink known as the Gold Rush and a cocktail made with sloe gin, apricot brandy, and lime called the Charlie Chaplin. Owner Viet Pham, a Fountain Valley native, hopes that The Recess Room will bring the community quality bites that bring in foodies and families from all over OC. Pham opened Recess Room with a collection of childhood friends, all home boys from Fountain Valley. “Recess Room also means break time to us, a time for people to get off work and unwind. We opened this store in FV because growing up there was only chain restaurants here and nothing we felt attracted people to our city.” – Viet Pham, owner

Brunch at The Recess Room is unlike anything Fountain Valley has seen before. Chef Sam Green leads the way with innovative creations that make this brunch one of the most unique in the area. Notably, Sam has worked previously as sous chef under Chef Amar Santana. Their Smoked Salmon Benedict is made with a red wine poached egg, citrus hollandaise, and a squid ink english muffin. The Chicken & Waffles is made with panko crusted chicken breast and a kimchi butter waffle. The Recess Room also gets creative with drink pairings for brunch — their bottomless mimosas can be made with a juice choice of mango, lychee, and blood orange, to name a few.

“My specialty is bringing an open mind to ingredients and wanting to explore new ideas and techniques, with carrying and open mind and approach to food my belief is that the offerings at the Recess Room will continue to grow and delight many different palates” - Sam Green, Chef

Haven Gastropub – Orange
0.00

Haven Gastropub opened in September of 2009 to a record crowd of 500,000+ attending the annual Orange International Street Fair. Since then, Haven Gastropub has already been recognized by both the Orange County Register and the readers of OC Weekly as the Best New Restaurant of 2009. The gastropub movement started in the early 90’s in London, England. The idea of taking an existing pub, injecting a gourmet chef, and elevating the experience for its patrons crossed the pond and has been permeating this country for a few years now. Only recently has Orange County become a destination for such fare. Haven Gastropub’s mission is to provide high quality, freshly prepared food at reasonable prices, maintaining purveyors of local or organic produce, sustainable seafood, and humanely raised meat and poultry as often as possible. Haven Gastropub also goes further to provide a unique selection of beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails to enjoy alongside the food. Haven Gastropub strives to make available beers that are reserved or highly allocated for only the most serious beer-centric restaurants and pubs. Annual releases, brewery collaborations, and just plain hard to find beers somehow find their way into the cold storage space at Haven Gastropub. Haven Gastropub carries a vast selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle. Boutique wineries are sought out, to give the guests a chance to indulge in something they may have never tried before. While you may recognize a few wineries by name, you will notice even more that you’ve probably never heard of. The team at Haven Gastropub has painstakingly gone through many a wine tasting to find these gems… On the cocktail side, Haven Gastropub has many unique offerings as well. Recipes developed by Haven’s own grace the bartop throughout the evening. Spirits not seen in your average bar are used to create delicious cocktails to help elevate your experience.

Break of Dawn open its doors in Laguna Hills on Aug 23, 2006 where it remained for seven years before relocating to its current spot just a few doors down. The decor is modern eclectic with graffiti art on the wall and church pews as banquettes. Look closer and you will see tabletops sitting on recycled sewing machines. Everything at Break of Dawn is a labor of love especially when it comes to Nguyen’s cuisine. His fine dining style comfort food ranges from classics such as mac n cheese, to bacon and eggs.
