Artist Series Art Competition – The Capital Grille Restaurant

August 24, 2011toOctober 7, 2011

Let Our Masterpieces Inspire Yours.

Does the popping of a cork get your creative juices flowing? If so, you could become the next winner of our annual Artist Series Wine Event art competition. Paint, illustrate, or use the medium of your choice to create a piece of art that captures the essence of our exclusive, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, and your artwork could be seen on every label this spring. May your ideas flow like wine.

Entries accepted through October 7, 2011.

Artistry in a Bottle

Long considered one of the finest producers of Cabernet Sauvignon in the world, Napa Valley's Freemark Abbey has now created a special vintage to be featured exclusively at The Capital Grille during our Artist Series Wine Event this coming spring. The wine is lively, sophisticated and intensely aromatic, with elegant tannins and a long, clean, fruity finish. Made from grapes grown in their famed Stagecoach and Bosché vineyards, it features flavors of black currant, vanilla and oak, with hints of dark chocolate. There will be no name on this wine—the brilliant blend under the cork and the artwork gracing the label will be its identity. If you need further inspiration, know that proceeds from the sale of each bottle will be donated to Share Our Strength, to help in their effort to end childhood hunger in America.

May the Best Art Win

The winning artwork will be featured on every bottle of this limited production Cabernet Sauvignon to be offered exclusively at The Capital Grille next spring. The winner will also receive a full case of this special vintage, along with an all-expenses-paid excursion to Napa Valley, the birthplace of the Cabernet Sauvignon that inspired your masterpiece. Enter as many designs as you like—we look forward to seeing them all.

Contest is open to legal residents of the continental United States or District of Columbia (excluding California, where the Promotion is void), who are 21 years of age or older by October 7, 2011

ZOV DEBUTS NEW COOKBOOK

Following the success of her first cookbook, popular chef/restaurateur Zov has announced the debut of a second tome entitled, “Simply Zov,” a collection of surprisingly easy-to-prepare recipes that explore novel takes on familiar dishes. Her first cookbook, “Recipes and Memories of the Heart,” was a best-seller and Zov hopes to achieve similar success with her second book, which offers 150 recipes each accompanied by a striking color photo and step-by-step instructions.
Culled from years of experience, the recipes run the gamut from familiar breakfast items to decadent desserts; and unique poultry, fish and beef entrees to remarkable appetizers, homemade soups and fresh salads. More than just a cookbook, the 381-page hardbound “Simply Zov” offers “a passport to a world of exquisite aromas, delectable flavors, varying textures and stunning visual presentations.” The book contains a “pantry” of ingredients that should be purchased in order to prepare the recipes and a glossary of terms to acquaint the reader with the unfamiliar.
“’Simply Zov’ is ideal for the busy budding chef who has a family, a limited budget and wants to incorporate fresh ingredients like those found at farmers markets into their cooking,” said Zov. “I hope to inspire people and introduce them to a world of flavor with recipes that are different, unique, and functional.”
Zov says that as Americans become more comfortable with different ethnic cuisines, they will be able to rely on works like “Simply Zov” to acquaint them with unfamiliar spices and ingredients so that they can explore a new world of culinary adventure.
“American cuisine represents a culture of food that blends spices, techniques, and ingredients from different parts of the globe to create something fresh and exciting,” she said.
Advance order for “Simply Zov” can be made by visiting www.zovs.com or calling (714) 838-8855 ext. (22).

Provence Sets New Record in Wine Exports to the U.S.

Year-end 2010 export figures from the French Customs agency reveal record-setting growth in the level of exports of rosé and red wines from the Provence region to the United States. Customs data released by the CIVP/Provence Wine Council shows that exports of rosé and red wines from Provence to the U.S. jumped 132% by value and 85% by volume in 2010 compared to 2009. These percentages represent greater increases than ever previously seen, and rank Provence as the fastest-growing French region in wine exportation to the U.S.

“These numbers provide further confirmation of the rising appeal of Provence wines to the U.S. consumer,” said Julie Peterson of the CIVP/Provence Wine Council’s U.S. trade office. “In particular, Americans are discovering the versatility of Provence’s traditional dry rosé, which is made from red grapes and offers the character of a red wine with the crispness of a white.”

The 2010 export numbers also show that the supply chain is growing stronger, Peterson said. “We know that there’s more Provence rosé available in more U.S. cities today than ever before, with over 100 Provence domaines active in the U.S. market.”

Peterson noted that while the French Customs data groups rosé and red wines together, dry rosés make up the vast majority of Provence exports, based on production numbers. In 2010, for example, 87% of all AOC wines produced in Provence were rosés, while only 9% were reds.

The Provence Wine Council, is an organization representing more than 600 Provence wine producers and 72 trade companies. Its mission is to promote and advance the wines of the Provence region of France. The organization’s members together produce 95 percent of Provence’s Appellation d’Origine Controlee (AOC) wines. Its U.S. web address is www.winesofprovence.com.
