Christmas Carolers A Holiday Tradition at Five Crowns – Five Crowns – Corona del Mar

December 1, 2011 5:00 pmtoDecember 31, 2011 9:00 pm

The Handbell Carolers are a holiday tradition at Five Crowns. The costumed singers of “Mixed Company” are celebrating 29 years of performing Christmas favorites at the Victorian-themed restaurant, a popular destination during the Christmas season. Dinner-time performances start December 1st and continue through December 30th. A veteran entertainer who began at a very young age, Orange County native Randy Pryor is the group’s founder: He began his career at age six. Pryor started his company of singers with a single quartet; now there are six groups who perform in costume at Five Crowns as well as at Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm.

“People don’t realize how much a song can mean to someone,” says Pryor. He recounts one instance in which a man who had just recently come out of a lengthy coma made his first verbal response to the music of one of the quartets. The groups are happy to take requests, and while they never forget the reason for the season, they are dedicated to the idea that Christmas is fun. Pryor has produced four CDs of the groups’ holiday music, the latest of which is available for purchase for $5 each at Five Crowns.

Peter is the fifth generation of his family in California, but the first born in California. His great, great grandfather came from Italy to California, but then disappeared. His Great Grandfather founded a restaurant and hotel in San Francisco the Saint Gotthard, which was destroyed in the fire and earthquake of 1906. Subsequent generations, though born in Italy, lived and farmed in the California Central Coast since the early 1900's.
